Habsburg Story vol.1: from Vienna to Transylvania

Habsburg Story vol.1: from Vienna to Transylvania

Central Europe, Romania

16 Day tour from Vienna to Vienna covering Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Slovenia

New: Guaranteed departure July 18 2018

Introduction

Modern Austria is a small country with a large history. The parts of it, covered by this tour, long formed the hub of a far-flung monarchy ruled by the house of Habsburg. Habsburgs possessions covered Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, large parts of Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, north-eastern part of Italy and Transylvania. The empire enjoyed its apogee in the 17 th and 18th centuries and the predominantly Baroque face of Austria bears witness to that expansive age. Later the long reign of Francis Joseph II (1848-1916) brought a renewed cultural flowering. But by then social and national antagonisms were undermining the fabric of Habsburg rule, which collapsed almost overnight in 1918. The itinerary leads you  through the heart of Vienna, Eastern Austria, Bratislava, Hungary, Northern Slovenia and the magic land of Transylvania, displaying a large collection of well preserved small towns, fortified churches, beautiful medieval cities, castles and palaces brought together in an unique combination!

Whatever his or her main interests, the discerning visitor will find great beauty and charm in this fascinating heart of Central Europe, where the sunny landscapes, fine cooking and delicious wines complement the artistic and architectural treasures of the region.

Period of validity: 18th of April – 31st of October 2018/2019 for groups of 20-35 guests
