Habsburg Story vol.4: The Wine Trail

Habsburg Story vol.4: The Wine Trail

, Romania

17 Day tour from Budapest to Vienna, including Hungary, Romania (Transylvania), Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy (Friuli) and Austria

Introduction

This tour makes extensive inroads into the wine history of the former Habsburg Empire.  The itinerary leads you  through the heart of famous vineyards of Hungary, Transylvania (Romania), Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Friuli (Italy) and Austria displaying a large collection of exquisite wines, culinary delights associated with wines, amazing churches and monasteries, beautiful medieval cities, castles and palaces brought together in an unique combination!

The wine regions included in the Trail are, in a general way,   plantations introduced by the Roman army. For the indigenous peoples, who lived and worked alongside of the Roman soldiers, one can infer that a way “to act Roman” and in a certain sense “to be Roman” was to acquire a taste for this new beverage from the Mediterranean world. Similar climatic and other environmental conditions which encouraged the ancient Greek and Romans to extend viticulture to the Danube region have resulted in a renaissance of wine production in more modern times. A special case is Romania, which has one of the oldest wine traditions in all of Europe, dating back to ancient times before Greek and Roman civilizations. Indigenous grapes have always prospered, and viticulture followed. Four wine tasting sessions were included in order to get you acquainted with the wonderful Romanian wines.

Period of validity: 15th of May – 31st of October 2018/2019 for groups of 20 guests.
